I first visited Nepal in 2016 and returned in 2018 to finish the trek to Everest Base Camp. I spent about two weeks in the Himalayas, in altitude, trekking through Sherpa villages. I was due to reach Base Camp (5,380 meters / 17,600 feet) on Day 8, but got altitude sickness at Thukla (4,650 meters / 15,250 feet) on Day 7 and had to start descending. I was disappointed not to make it to Base Camp, but I was able to take a leisurely walk back to Lukla with Indra, my guide, and move at my own pace. It was an amazing journey, and I’m so grateful. Here are some highlights from my trek.
