Fire Island, New York

I’d lived in New York for over three years and had never been to Fire Island.  So, when a friend suggested we head there for a little pre-birthday outing, I happily accepted. Fire Island was somewhat of a hike to get to from the city – taxi to Penn Station, LIRR to Bay Shore with a transfer in Babylon, bus to the ferry and, finally, the Fire Island Flyer to the small Village of Ocean Beach.  Ocean Beach is a quaint little town consisting of a few main streets lined with small restaurants and bars.  I loved the beachy laid-back feel of Fire Island.

Fire Island Flyer.

Bay Walk.

No cars; lots of bicycles.

First stop, pizza and sangria at Michael’s.

Next stop, Island Mermaid, home of the famous Rocket Fuel, a seemingly-innocent Pina Colada with a 151 sinker and an Amaretto floater.

Pier.

Sunset.

Hi, I'm Koren! I started this blog back in 2012, when I was an unhappy lawyer living in New York City. I needed a creative outlet, and I've always loved writing, photography, and travel. Little did I know, this blog would end up changing my life! Since then, I've moved to California and done a total life and career transformation. After a five-year hiatus, I'm excited to share recent photography here.
