The Lower East Side is my favorite neighborhood when I’m craving a sweet treat. Here are 7 treats you absolutely must try if you’re in the Lower East Side!
1. Bisous Ciao, 101 Stanton @ Orchard/Ludlow. Bisous Ciao specializes in colorful, tasty and trendy macarons. Can’t make it to the Lower East Side? Bisous Ciao delivers throughout Manhattan! Flavors can be viewed on Bisous Ciao’s website!
2. il laboratorio del gelato, 188 Ludlow @ Houston. I love love this gelato! Housed in an industrial space resembling a laboratory, their flavor list is extensive, unique and impeccably fresh. Pictured below is a basil and lavender mix. View the full flavor list here!
3. Economy Candy, 108 Rivington @ Ludlow/Essex. Economy Candy reminds me of my favorite candy store growing up. All the classics are sold here – Oh Henry!, Chunky and even candy cigarettes (though I’m fairly sure these are now frowned upon). Savor all the old-time favorites here!
4. Creperie, 135 Ludlow @ Stanton/Rivington. This tiny shop serves a full menu of sweet crepes filled with anything from marshmallow and caramel to baked apple. If you’re not in the mood for something sweet, you can opt for a savory crepe filled with ham and cheese or tomato and basil. Check out Creperie’s full menu!
5. Sugar Sweet Sunshine, 126 Rivington @ Essex/Norfolk. Everyone knows Sugar Sweet Sunshine bakes great cupcakes. I go for the pudding though. Sugar Sweet Sunshine sells the most amazing banana and chocolate pudding. It’s housed in the display case on the left – I highly recommend. Click here for the full sweet selection!
6. Babycakes, 248 Broome @ Orchard/Ludlow. Babycakes is a vegan/gluten-free bakery serving everything from cupcakes to spelt strawberry and coconut cream biscuits. The shop is pink and the servers are outfitted in 1950s-style diner uniforms. It’s a must try. Check out the full menu!
7. Doughnut Plant, 379 Grand @ Norfolk/Suffolk. Doughnut Plant bakes the most diverse selection of delicious doughnuts. Pictured below are the peanut butter banana-filled and the carrot cake. Full doughnut selection can be viewed here!

Oooooh, as if I wasn’t hungry enough to begin with, I feel ravenous now. I could see myself scarfing down a few of the unique donuts from the Doughnut Plant.
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
This all looks delicious — I don’t think I could ever pick just one! Of course, maybe that’s because I’ve been in China a month now, and their sweets look good, but they don’t taste very sweet. 🙁 I feel like every time I go to NYC I find some of the most delicious treats I’ve ever seen!
Interesting about the sweets in China – I always thought they looked so good also!
